We have been running Teacher Professional Learning Workshops since 2014. The workshops focus on English language training methods and the content of the workshop is decided in collaboration with the teachers to meet their needs. Teachers from 9 primary and 3 secondary schools attend the workshop and are presented with a certificate at the end of the course. The workshops have been effective with schools showing an improvement in Grade 7 pass rates in English. With one school having a 56% increase over a three year period and the Head Teacher credited the workshops in playing an important part in this, as well as the access to books and other learning material that the children and teachers did not have before.
At the end of the three day workshops after all the hard work, Imvelo Safari Lodges take the teachers on a well-deserved game drive in the Hwange National Park. Needless to say, this is a major highlight of the workshop!
During the workshops the Hwange Schools Project distributes books, stationary and teaching resources for the schools and teachers who attend.
During the workshop we run a craft project for the children, resulting in beautiful artwork and great fun!
